What a joke! Is this a joke or is it just me?

A national theme song - we are talking about national pride and some one just come out with a copy cat for it. This is unbelievable! You can say whatever you want but there are just somethings that we have to come out different especially when national pride is concern.

Yes, you can innovate technology but I won’t be impressed if they are going to do that for something that should make us all Singaporean proud.

Do something about it. You can say that you are inspired by it when you first saw it but just keep that personal ok and not try to let it out for our NDP theme where national pride, sense of belonging is concerned.

It will be embarrassing when people in other country start saying that Singapore is a copycat nation to the extend of copying others for their national day theme song. That will be the biggest joke for us.

Food Standard Sucks

Singapore hawker center

The food in Singapore has always been good with lots of variety we can choose from. We have good local food everywhere and the standard has been good before.

With recent price hike in rice, you no longer get quality food if you are eating out. It’s either too little compare to the normal serving or too expensive. Why is this so?

It’s easy for the food vendor to just blame it on the price hike and that is the most absurd reason to come out with. What’s with them about maintaining their profits?

If the price of rice increases for about $2 per packet of rice that they will now have to pay, selling their food at the same price will not actually send them into major profit loss. They will only be getting a lesser profit that’s all.

If for example they are getting a pure profit of $5000 a month, if they are going to maintain their serving or even maintain their usual price, maybe they will now just earn a pure profit of maybe $4000 a month. So it that not profit? Why must they compromise standard just for the sake of not wanting to earn lesser?

National Servicemen Died During Training

Singapore Army

The shocking news came last week when not one but two national servicemen died in training. our deepest sympathy for the family of the deceased.

It sent Mindef to stop all physical training immediately. What went wrong?

Are they physically fit to be in combat in the first place or is it just unnatural death? How can we be sure that when we let our children to serve the country and they will come back fine and not in body bags?

The boys in Singapore have to sacrifice two and half years serving the country in national service and the very least the government can do is to assure their safety. We are not at war where death is imminent. National service is a preparation training and not actual war itself and human casualties in terms of death in training is hard to think.

More Gamblers Seeking Debt Rescue

gambling

Gambling is an addiction. There’s nothing better to describe gambling other than a disease that can cause a lot of problem to the gamblers and their families. The same like drugs, it is addictive.

I am not sure how most people in Singapore see it as, but from my personal point of view, it will only lead to bad outcome rather than good.

With easy access to credit cards, most gamblers will jump into the wagon of debt by applying more than one credit card just to pay off their gambling debt. The complacency towards incurring debt, together with the growing acceptability to gambling is suicidal!

Is there such thing like gambling for leisure or healthy gambling? I’m not sure if I’ve missed something but I think this is one biggest joke I’ve heard for a very long time.

Be realistic – can a gambler put a stop loss and tell himself, OK – I lost today and call it a quit? I doubt so. Instead what will they do when they have already run out of cash? Apply more credit card or even buy electronic products on hire purchase to sell it of for instant cash at a lower price. Thus making situation from bad to worst!

We are slowly becoming a society of gamblers if this trend continues. As more people here see gambling as a leisure activity, more are getting into it at a younger age. Let this trend continues and very soon, 10 years from now, all we can hear our younger generation talking is about gambling and how easy one can make money from gambling.

With football betting readily available from Singapore Pools outlets, we can see even our school children talking about betting.

What good can this do to our society?

Petrol Price Soaring UP

petrol pice increaseIt is going up and up and until when can we live like this?

The price of petrol here in Singapore has seen an increased of more than $0.50 from the last two months and I think most Singaporeans are feeling the heat now.

With the price of rice also increase, we are looking at paying a higher price for the two most important things in our life.

If this trend is not going to change any sooner, I think most of us will not have enough to survive here. I just can’t imagine paying $2.50 for a litre of petrol and $20 for a 5 kilo bag of rice. What will happen to us if this trend really continues for the nest 1 or two years?

More and more people here will suffer with the price of living here is already very high comparing to the neighboring countries and maybe more and more people will just opt to go bankrupt because it’s hardly enough to pay for all the living expenses here plus loans that most of them are servicing every month.

Hire Purchase From Courts

I am not sure if anyone else share the same bad experience as I had with Courts Superstore. Being a Singaporean, some of us do make hire purchase from Courts and that includes me.

I am just not sure why many of us still go for hire purchase from Courts considering the high interest that they are charging comparing to other superstores. I guess we are just plain desperate to get on the things we dream of like computers, notebook electronic products like digital camera, camcorder, plasma TV etc etc.

As for me, it’s just the convenience that they provide and I make sure to make prompt payment every month and I have been doing that until I finish paying for the installment.

Knowing Courts, they will send their debt collector to come and harass you even if you default payment for one month or two months. They will come to your house and we will have to pay extra $50 for the debt collection service on top of the late payment charges.

I can tell you that it is not a good experience when their debt collector comes to your house. It happened to me once when I defaulted payment for two months. They came to your house and this people they are very rude. I never wanted to go through that again and i decided that this will be the last time I will ever make any purchase from Courts again and I will not recommend anyone to get anything from Courts too.

Why no seat belt?

There was a big ask recently about a school van carrying school children that met with an accident resulting in a death of one student when he was flung out of a school van in an accident - Why no seatbelt?

The school van did not have seat belt for students sitting in the school van! Is this an acceptable practice for all passenger van in Singapore not to have a safety seat belts installed?

It is a must for all cars in Singapore to be fit with rear passenger seat belt many years ago as the government see it as a safety measures. This is a good move made by LTA and a lot have been done to ensure all cars are fit with rear passenger seat belt and now all cars in Singapore are fit with the safety device.

As much has been done to ensure the safety of the passengers in the cars, what about the safety of the people in a passenger van especially passenger vans involve in ferrying school children? We are talking about the safety of our children in the school van.

Safety measures should be taken into study and consideration to prevent accident resulting in fatality and not to be taken lightly especially when our children’s life is concerned.

Well after all, we are Singaporeans and we expect the best and the safest for our children, shouldn’t we?
